Light to medium bodied with hints of red cherry and some earthy flavours on the nose. Very soft tannins and the acidity (even though not high) quite noticeable. The wine can be enjoyed from early 2017, but should last and improve for a further 2 to 3 years after release. The wine is ideal to be enjoyed slightly chilled and will go well with firm cheeses and charcuterie. 1330 bottles produced

All the grapes were hand picked on the 22nd of February and 20% whole bunch foot stomped, with the balance destemmed with a small mechanical destemmer into a neutral fermentation vessel. The pulp was chilled down with cooling plates submerged into the mash. The wine was naturally co-fermented for about 9 days and pump
overs were performed twice daily to daily during the end of the fermentation. The free run juice was racked to tank and the pulp was pressed. The wine settled in tank for about 1 week before being aged in three 3rd – 4th fill 300L French oak barrels for 11 months. The wine was not fined nor cold stabilised and lightly filtered at bottling.
They loved the freshness and drinkeability of this wine tasting it from barrel during the maturation phase. This wine was produced for their Amnesty blend, but we decided to rather let it stand on its own. The wine is not intended for long ageing, so they decided not to add any additional sulphur prior to bottling.
Grapes were harvested from a 9 year old trellised and irrigated single row of vines, Spruitdrift area, Olifants River, West Coast, South Africa.
